Back to Parlour for Mac

In short

Parlour has no account, no analytics and no tracking. It never records or uploads your music, and it never sends your listening history anywhere.

What leaves your Mac

  • The album cover, from Spotify. For an album Parlour has not seen before, it downloads the cover image from the address Spotify gives for it, to pick the label's colours. The image is shrunk in memory and thrown away; it is never saved.
  • A search on Apple's iTunes Search API, when a cover is missing. If the music app gives no cover, Parlour searches Apple's public iTunes Search API for the artist and album name to find one. Set Label to Plain in Settings and neither the cover nor the search happens.
  • The update check, once a day. Parlour asks this site whether there is a newer version (the Sparkle update framework). The request carries Parlour's version and nothing about your Mac: Sparkle's system profiling is off.
  • The update itself, from GitHub. If you choose to install an update, it downloads from GitHub's servers (github.com and its file server, release-assets.githubusercontent.com), where Parlour's releases are kept. The Download button on this page goes there too.

The Now Playing source reads your Mac's own Now Playing (what the menu bar shows) on your Mac, and sends nothing anywhere.

As with any web request, the servers on the other end of these (this site's host, Vercel; GitHub; Spotify's image server; Apple's search) can see your IP address. Parlour sends them nothing else about you.

What stays on your Mac

A small file of the albums you have played (artist and album names, each record's random seed, its label colours and its sound settings), in ~/Library/Application Support/Parlour/records.json, and a log of what the player did, in ~/Library/Logs/Parlour. Neither is ever sent anywhere.
